Rally, South Dakota drug busts adding up

Drug busts are up so far this week for the South Dakota Highway Patrol, which had recorded 23 felony drug arrests and 124 misdemeanor drug arrests for Sturgis rally week as of Thursday morning.
At the same time last year in South Dakota, there had been 13 felony drug arrests and 92 misdemeanor drug arrests.

Wednesday, South Dakota troopers stopped a westbound car on Interstate 90 near New Underwood, South Dakota on suspicion of drunken driving. The vehicle turned out to have been reported stolen from Jacksonville, Fla., and a search of the vehicle turned up one and one-half pounds of marijuana. The driver, Robert Stark Anderson of Albany, La., and passenger JoAnn Farris, were both arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and felony possession of marijuana. Anderson was also charged with driving under the influence.

Also on Wednesday, South Dakota troopers assisted the South Dakota state Division of Criminal Investigation with a search warrant at a campground near Sturgis, South Dakota. About $47,000 in cash, determined to be proceeds from sales of marijuana, was seized.

A South Dakota traffic stop in Sturgis, South Dakota Wednesday also resulted in a drug arrest, as a drug dog turned up methamphetamine and a large amount of cash. No further details were available Thursday
